I received my B.A. in Communication from Seoul National University, and my M.A. and Ph.D. in Communication from Michigan State University.I study how emerging information communication technology—including robots, computer agents, video games, and Web 2.0—influences human attitudes and behaviors. My research uniquely integrates communication and human-machine interaction to advance a new theory of persuasive technology. The theory will be vital in enabling technology to build credibility, gain trust, and, ultimately, function more effectively. The theory will also allow us to use technology as persuasive agents that promote positive changes. To connect my research with teaching, I offer innovative, interdisciplinary courses including social robotics and emerging media technology. I also teach research methods, persuasion, and intercultural communication both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. I believe in the effectiveness of a student-centered, project-based learning approach, which integrates knowing and doing. I have a passion for helping students to solve real-world problems and produce results that matter.
